What PAM does when you edit an old record, or delete an old record or insert an old record…?
PAM will (behind the scenes) remove all the Mob-Paddock history records from that past date onwards and then rebuild those records taking into account the change that you made.
What can happen?
If you remove a record that impacts on any subsequent record, PAM will report any tally problems by inserting a ‘star' in the data list on the Diary and create a new “Tally Error” record in the diary at the point the error was found.
For example: If you
moved 500 sheep into Paddock A on 1/10/2007; then
recorded the sale of those 500 sheep from Paddock A on 2/10/2007; then
for some reason, deleted the move record created on 1/10/2007 … PAM will display a Tally Error on 2/10/2007 because it could not sell 500 sheep from Paddock A, they were not there ! (they had been deleted)
What can you do when this happens? - Simply fix the problem. In this example, you would re-enter the movement that you deleted. Pam will immediately rebuild your Mob-Paddock history data and the problem will go away. Tally errors will only occur a result of backdating or removing records. You will see the problem immediately. Our advice: Fix it immediately.
IMPORTANT : Please ensure that you are satisfied with your livestock tallies and that you entered all your sales, purchases, births, moves etc before installing PAM 6.
Why? Due to the complexity and consequences of this new backdating, deleting and editing facility, PAM will bar you from backdating records in the PAM 6 livestock diary prior to the beginning of the month that you install your PAM 6 upgrade. You may freely use the backdating facilities for any entries after that date.
