MAX Pro Network Help
The network version of MaxPro allows different users, working on different machines to share and work on the same data. There are two different network versions of MaxPro namely, Server version and WorkStation version. The difference between the Server and WorkStation version of MaxPro is that there are more control and options in the Server version of MaxPro than the WorkStation version. In order for different machines and users to work on the set of data for MaxPro, you would have to install one Server version of MaxPro on one machine and WorkStation version of MaxPro for the rest of the machines. There are two different ways in which you can configure and install network version of MaxPro (depending on the network environment that is setup in your office).
(First Option)
The picture below shows several computers linked together in a network environment (Blue lines represents the cables). There is no dedicated Server machine in this network. Everyone works on their own machine and are linked to one another via the cables, thus creating a network.
To install network version of MaxPro in this situation, we would install a Server version of MaxPro on John's Machine and WorkStation version of MaxPro on the rest of the machines. When installing the Server or WorkStation version of MaxPro, the installation would ask you to specific the directory of the Server and WorkStation files.Server Version (on John's machine) - Specific local directories like C: drive for both the Server and WorkStation files. It is best to install the Server and WorkStation files into different directories/folders. (ie. C:\MaxPro for Server files and C:\MaxProClient for WorkStation files)
WorkStation Version (Peter, Jane, Tom and Helda's machine) - The installation would ask you to specific the directory where the Server files are. You would have to create a Mapped Network Drive stating the directory/folder where the Server files are on John's machine. Then specify the Mapped Network Drive that you have created as to where the Server files are. Next the installation would ask you to specify the directory to install the WorkStation files. Install the WorkStation files onto a local directory like C:\MaxProClient. Please remember that you need to have read/write access on the directory (the Mapped Network Drive) where the Server files are on John's machine.
(Second Option)
The picture below shows several computers linked together in a network environment (Blue lines represents the cables). There is a dedicated Server machine in this network. Everyone works on their own machine and are linked to one another via the Server machine, thus creating a network.

When installing the Server or WorkStation version of MaxPro, the installation would ask you to specific the directory of the Server and WorkStation files.
Server Version (on Peter's machine) - Firstly you would have to create a Mapped Network Drive onto a directory in the Server machine. Specify the Mapped Network Drive that you have created as the destination where the Server files are to be installed. Next the installation would ask you to specific the directory to install the WorkStation files. Install the WorkStation files onto a local directory like C:\MaxProClient.
WorkStation Version (Jane, Tom and Helda's machine) - The installation would ask you to specific directory where the Server files are. You would have to create a Mapped Network Drive stating the directory where the Server files are on Server machine. Then specific the Mapped Network Drive that you have created as to where the Server files are. Next the installation would ask you to specify the directory to install the WorkStation files. Install the WorkStation files onto a local directory like C:\MaxProClient. Please remember that you need to have read/write access on the directory (the Mapped Network Drive) where the Server files are on Server machine.
